General information only: This guide does not consider your objectives, financial situation or needs and is not financial advice. Credit eligibility, rates and terms depend on the lender's assessment.

Conditional approval is not permission to collect the car

A conditional outcome means specified matters remain unresolved. These can include identity, income, liabilities, the chosen vehicle, valuation, seller information, comprehensive insurance or another lender condition.

Do not make an unconditional purchase commitment merely because an estimate or conditional approval exists. Read the conditions, expiry date and vehicle limits first.

Final assessment connects the borrower and transaction

The lender verifies the application information and decides whether the actual vehicle, seller and requested structure fit the approved product. A change in purchase price, deposit, vehicle, employment, liabilities or credit position can require reassessment.

  • Supply current identity and income evidence
  • Confirm the amount, contribution, term and balloon
  • Provide an acceptable invoice or sale agreement
  • Identify the vehicle by VIN and registration details
  • Satisfy valuation, inspection or seller checks where required

Read the contract before signing

The credit contract should identify the credit provider, amount, interest, fees, repayment schedule, term, security and other conditions. Confirm the figures against the offer you intended to accept and ask about anything that differs.

Signing can create legal obligations, but settlement may still depend on outstanding conditions and verified disbursement instructions. Keep a copy of the signed contract and disclosures.

Insurance and settlement instructions must be verified

A secured lender commonly requires comprehensive insurance before releasing funds. CTP covers personal injury under the relevant state scheme; it does not replace cover for loss of or damage to the financed vehicle.

Dealer settlement generally uses the dealer invoice and verified account. Private sales can require seller identity, proof of ownership, a current PPSR result, payout instructions and direct payment to an existing financier. Do not redirect funds solely because payment details changed in an email or message.

Collection happens after confirmed settlement

Do not rely on a screenshot or assumption that funds have been released. Confirm settlement through the agreed channel, then complete registration transfer, insurance commencement, keys, inspection and receipt records. Keep the PPSR certificate and payout evidence for a private purchase.
